Golf at the State Tournament
Brandon Staudt played for the University School golf team as an individual qualifier in the WIAA Division 2 State Boys Golf Championship on Monday, June 5th and Tuesday, June 6th at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison. He finished tied for 8th place in the tournament.
Staudt made a remarkable turn around during the two-day event. The USM junior ended the first day in 16th place, but moved up eight places on the tournament’s second day. His score of 73 was the second-best total carded by any of the 52 individual golfers on Tuesday.
Phil Plautz, USM’s head coach, commented, “The weather was beautiful at University Ridge. Brandon played well, shooting 82 and 73 to tie for eighth place in D2. His ball striking and putting were consistent in both rounds. His course management was much better in round two as he was in good position on the course most of the day. Hoping he can build motivation going forward with his success this year.”
In the opening round of the tournament on Monday, June 5th, Staudt finished in 16th place by shooting an 82, 10 over par on the University Ridge Golf Course. Staudt shot par on 11 holes. He bogeyed 5 holes, double-bogeyed 1 hole, and shot a 3-over par on 1 other hole.
Staudt improved immensely in Tuesday’s second round. He missed par by just 1 shot on the par 72 course. He birdied 2 holes, hit par on 13 holes, and bogeyed only 3 holes. His 73 combined with his 82 on Monday gave him a total of 155 for the two-day tournament. He finished the tournament 11 over par.
Staudt’s fine finish completed the season for the USM golf team. As a team, the Wildcats ended up in second place in the Midwest Classic Conference.
