Boys Tennis at the State Individual Tournament
Freshman Addison Elliot and sophomore Matt Cooper of the University School boys’ tennis team competed in the WIAA Division 2 State Individual Doubles Championship Tournament on Thursday, June 2nd and Friday, June 3rd at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
In the tournament’s first round on Thursday evening, Elliot and Cooper defeated Joe Moede and Jered Brehm, both juniors at East Troy by a score of 6-0, 6-2.
In their next match on Friday, Elliot and Cooper took on junior Peter Lamberton and senior Joe Rudd of The Prairie School. Lamberton and Rudd were seeded third in the meet; they made it to the second-round match with a bye. Elliot and Cooper lost to Lamberton and Rudd 7-5, 6-3. They were eliminated from the tournament as a result of the loss.
Matt Flack, USM’s head coach commented, “Our 1 doubles team of Addison Elliott and Matthew Cooper played very well at the individual state tournament in Madison this past weekend. On Thursday, they beat a team from East Troy 6-0, 6-2 and were never really challenged. On Friday, they played the tournament’s #3 seed, Racine Prairie, and lost 7-5, 6-3. They learned a lot about playing in a high stakes atmosphere, and this experience will serve them well in the years ahead.”
The 2017 season for the University School boys’ tennis team is now finished.
